This Funeral home is by far the best funeral home in Columbus. The staff Steve, Jen and Joy specifically have been a true godsend. The commitment, compassion, respect and most of all Love they show you during the worst possible times in our lives makes the end of life arrangements so much easier to make. Thank you Jerry Spears Funeral Home for all the love you have shown us over the years. Your part of our family now and we will always choose you for any and all of our funeral arrangements.
I wanted to thank Jennifer at Jerry Spears Funeral home and the staff. You were very professional and helpful through the whole process. The hardest time of my life and you helped me all the way through it and that meant a lot to me in my time of need. You don't realize how much goes into a funeral and Jennifer broke it down for me and helped me know what I needed and her assistance through the whole process was great and greatly appreciated. I just want to thank Jennifer and each one of the staff members for their assistance. I would highly recommend Jerry Spears to anyone looking for a good funeral home on West Broad St. They had plenty of parking and let me decorate the place and we had food and they worked with us with the music. They have really nice areas you can set up for people to meet and eat at. It was a nice open event and it had a welcoming environment. Thanks again for a wonderful experience in a hard time and moment in life. Great job. Kudos!
Bob Spears is such a kind and professional man. He showed compassion and sincerity while walking me through the process for my Father. He fully explained everything and made me feel very safe in turning my loved one over to his business for preparation for his final resting place. Pricing is a bit higher than a few other establishments in the area, but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. For the few extra dollars spent, I know my father was handled with respect and dignity, and The Spears family was looking out for our families best interest. Jennifer is the office, WOW! She felt like family. She was so sweet and helpful. Always willing to go the extra step to make sure everything was in Top order. I can not thank them enough for being so thoughtful and caring during our time of need. Thank you!
My mother pre-planned her funeral with Jerry Spears. When she passed, their phone service was not working so we had to keep her body in the house overnight. After trying to call both their locations overnight (the hospice nurse even went to the Broad St location), I decided to call another funeral home for assistance. The next morning, I went to Jerry Spears and requested her paperwork be transferred. Bob Spears called me to apologize, but he seemed more interested in having the phone service reimburse him for the money that he lost on my mother’s funeral rather than the pain and suffering our family went through. At Newcomer, I found that Jerry Spears had upsold my mother a much larger casket than she would have needed. Jerry Spears is just concerned about making money, not families.
Reconsider contacting this establishment, regarding your loved ones' "end of life" services. Within the last two weeks, a friend of mine had her mother pass in Florida and she reached out to this establishment to gain a quote regarding pricing and options available to consider including in honoring her mother. When her mother was received in Ohio, Mr. Spears had requested to see the invoice for transporting her mother out of Florida and advised not only her but her brothers that she had paid too much regarding prepping her body for transportation, death certificates, etc. Mr. Spears had advised that he would figure "something out" for her. One of the brothers of my friend advised he would carry on communications with this establishment while she made selections of burial plots. Mr. Spears had advised that my friend had "wasted his time". that I was not welcome to come to make the arrangements for our mother. He would only allow her brothers to make selections, agree upon, and give their stamp of approval for the funeral, viewing, etc. Her one and only verbal conversation that she had with Mr. Spears was less than 4 minutes, and that was a conversation of him providing basic and vague pricing. No documentation was provided to her, no contract, etc. Mr. Spears Jr. referred to her as a liar to her brothers and family and advised her brothers that the pricing on the invoice she provided upon his request regarding the transport of her mother from Florida to Ohio did not add up. His personal opinion was not only unwanted to my friend and her family, but unprofessional and apathetic to the situation. The situation was that her mother had just died, and we were all trying to make it through making the proper arrangements for her mother and assisting her in making the preparations. She was unable to attend her own mothers viewing and funeral services due to Mr. Spears Jr. implying that she was pocketing a portion of the life insurance policy from her mother’s estate. Mr. Spears Jr. had implied that she had stolen money from her brother, who had made a contribution to help cover the funeral costs, and stolen from her mothers life insurance policy, which she was the sole beneficiary. Which was then signed over in full to cover a portion of the $4,000 cost to bring her mother home from Florida back to Ohio. Due to Mr. Spears’ behavior, and the blatant lack of professionalism, herself, her two sons, a handful of friends, and family members did not feel safe or comfortable to attend her mothers viewing/services due to the chaos and rifting he had caused within my family.
