My oldest sister just passed on Monday, Nov. 20th,2023 very early AM at a local nursing facility. We just needed Basic cremation service ,because her ashes are to be carried Home to MS. My two daughters & bro-n-law stated Caliman's Service was exactly what we wanted , to the point and everything was explained very well. I had just returned to my home in Columbia ,SC, from Columbus--so I was listening by speaker phone. She looked absolutely just like she was sleeping, as dignity in death, IS huge with me .Her transition to Glory was very peaceful & the gentleman on duty went right on over to the nursing facility & picked up her body. Great Job Caliman Staff. Thank You.
My niece and nephew’s dad passed away unexpectedly and they were tasked with handling the arrangements. They had no idea of what to do or expect and Richard Caliman did not help matters at all. They would call him right back after he’d leave a message but he was always unavailable and never returned calls. His secretary couldn’t take a message to deliver to him because according to her “he likes to hear things first hand”. She’s the gatekeeper and he was totally focused on money which they couldn’t access without a death certificate (no life insurance). My niece showed him documents as proof of having the funds which he promptly made copies on their second visit to see him. He had already picked up their dad from the coroner’s office, before their first visit, and he had embalmed him without knowing if he were going to be buried or cremated; again chasing that dollar. Cha Ching ($795) plus transportation from Coroner’s offices ($$$). He apparently tried to bypass my niece to get the money from the funding source but was told he needed a death certificate showing a cause of death. Then what did he do? He called this already distressed family and left a voice message saying that he could not proceed because although the Coroner had signed off on the death certificate, the toxicologist had not. We made a 3 way call to the coroner’s office and was told that he absolutely could proceed with the tentative death certificate and that the final death certificate can take 4-6 weeks to be completed. She further stated that he knew how to pull the initial death certificate to proceed. To add insult to injury he had already drawn up the contract in which my family was charged for a cash advance for the services meaning he would be paid and they would have to pay the lender, through him, when their money was released. So why was he still acting like money was an issue and he wasn’t getting paid? GREED. Ironically after the call to the coroner’s office, which was close to closing, my family received a call from Richard early the next morning asking them to come in that same day for a final viewing of their dad before he was to be cremated later that afternoon. We can only assume his change of attitude was prompted by a call from the coroner’s office. They were professional in speaking with us but obviously bothered by his actions. They didn’t even bother to make him half way presentable for the last viewing of their father. Richard is disgusting. The last slap came when they could not even get their father’s obituary put on Caliman’s website. They paid over $2200 for a basic cremation (no services at all, no casket, no nothing) and can’t get a space on his website for an obituary announcing their father’s death???? RUN AWAY FROM THIS MAN AND HIS GATEKEEPERS. He’s all about the money and in death there isn’t a darn thing funny or more despicable than an insensitive person who was supposedly trained to comfort people in their time of need and chooses greed over empathy. Shame on you Richard Caliman.
To Caliman funeral services On behalf of my family we want to thank you so much for taking care of my beloved sister. And my self I don't know what I would have done without your service from Mr.R Caliman and your staff, you had empathy and sympathy in our time of need.I can say this is not our first time we've used Caliman Funeral Service before. And got the same service. 16 teen years ago Thanks for your services
It's been over a month since my mother died. Having to select someone to handle my mom's service was the hardest thing I have had to do. If it hadn't been for the staff at Caliman Funeral Services I don't know if this would have gone as well as it did. From the moment they called, they were always professional. They always look out for what was best for my mom. If I forgot something or didn't know what my next move was, they had my back. Was any of this easy for me, absolutely not. However, the staff at Caliman's made my mom's last journey, easy for me. I thank each of you for what you did. The family of Juanita McCall.
I want to thank Jon Caliman and the Caliman funeral services in the handling of all my family. My aunt 10 years ago, my mother last year and most recently my 12 yr old grandson last month. They were sympathetic, compassionate, understanding and patience with us especially knowing how hard it was to lose someone so young. Thank you from the Thornton and King families.
